Review: internship at pediatrics neurology

I finished internship at pediatrics neurology last week.

There were so much things to feel, not only learn.

And I just found this video at Oprah.com

An explosive child learn how to cope

10years old kids, Zach have been suffering big mood swings&range from 18 months. Of course the person who suffered from his range is not only himself but also his parents. When he into violent range, he can't
control himself, he throw everything, hurt people.....He even tried to kill his mother, even though he loved her so much.......

He has diagnosed that he has a combination of hypersensitivity and hyposensitivity when he became 10.

Now he is at a residential school for children with mental illness. His mother says she and his father decided to enroll him in this school not because they do not love him, but there was absolutely no way...

When I was doing internship at pediatrics neurology, I met many family whose family is totally
chaos....One mother can't sleep at all in night because her mentally disorder kids wakes her up every 30 mints....One mother needed to quit her work because she need to take care of her kids who has cerebellar
dysplasia all day....

I know that is good thing to take care of their own kids...

But I just want to say.....you can also ask help.

We know you love your kids....asking help doesn't mean not loving kids...

I think this video encourage you.

A Big Heart

These youtubes about  cardiac suegery in India are circulateing among my friends.

A Big Heart

In India since 1949, private healthcare has grown from just 8% of healthcare services to 93% of hospitals and 85% of doctors. Private financing makes up 78% of total health spending, which is one of the highest in the world. Approximately 40% of India’s population must either borrow money or sell assets to pay for hospitalization and, each year, nearly a quarter of that number fall into poverty due to medical expenses.

At Dr. Devi shetty's hospital Narayana hrudayalaya Hospitals in Bengaluru, India,open-heart surgery costs significantly less than anywhere else in the world.

Despite the low prices, excellent service and high-tech equipment offered by this hospital, data from the American Hospital Association shows that  Narayana Hrudayalaya hospitals, earns a 7.7% profit after taxes, which is above the 6.9% average for American hospitals. How is this possible?

1.He treats the most needy patients free of charge by subsidising their care through charging those who can pay a higher rate.

2. He has set up the Yeshasvini scheme, in which, for five rupees (about $1) per month, farmers in Karnataka state can insure themselves against healthcare expenses. The model is proving to be a vote-winner for politicians, and is being replicated across the country.

3.Cost cutting:

-Production line: Dr. Devi relies heavily on economies of scale: 6000 operations were done by 42 doctors in 2009, through an efficient system similar to a production line. This system minimizes the idle time of medical equipment such CT scanners and MRI machines, and charges patients less in the evenings for tests done on these machines.

-Part time Drs: Doctors and surgeons working at Narayana Hrudalaya are paid a fixed salary. The doctors deal with more cases on average, thus increasing overall productivity.

His ideas have the potential to provide services once thought too expensive, or too complex, to many low-income regions of the world, and is worthy of close scrutiny by the development community.

Always, Always, there are ways to solve problems.

Be creative, Be inovative.

The world is so small

As I wrote on this blog,
I am a big fan of 1000 awesome things.

This website makes me relax when I am almost stressed out from study.

I found  the web-owner's email address on this website, the other day.
So I sent him a "your website is awesome! " mail...

And you know what?

I got a reply from him.

I am a med student in Tokyo.
and
I got to know the auther of "awesome"( he also publish a book) in Toronto.

Thank you for the internet, now the world is very small, especially the world w/ internet.
Now I am writing this blog at my university library in Tokyo,
AIMing w/ friend in Paris,
listening Thai music through You tube.
Oh, and right now I got an email from my old roommate in Denmark.

This is the world we are living.
We can connect/contact whomever we want.
We can share whatever we want.

What a great wold.

P.S One of my classmates at med school committed suicide last weekends.
The med school I am attending is one of the top med school in Japan,
and there are only 100 students each grade.
So when I couldn't well on assigments/pass exams...etc.....I sometimes feel like I am totally alone/stupid....
But when I go on skype I can laugh w/ my highschool friends, cry w/ old friends.
Yes I am alone,  no one can live my life, no one take my place to make my decision.
But at the same time, No I am not alone.
I know this post is a little bit rambling....

Aaron Huey : Pine Ridge Indian Reservation

-The average life expectancy is 46-48.

-Unemployment rate is more than 90%

-The rate of people who are living under federal poverty line is 90%

-The rate of school drop out is 70%

These are not story of long long long time ago.

This is the story of now, this moment in Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
Here is a talk by Aaron Huey, my favorite photograher.

I also find his talk about Walking America Journey in 2001 at The Annerberg space for photography
 website.(talk was in 2010)

I know I need to think about this....but know my head is Blank...totally blank.

This is the exactely the same feeling I had when I visited the small island in the Philippines where was invaded by Japan at WWⅡ. That island didn't have access to safe water/ electtricity....And there was no culture.
For sure they had before Japanese destroyed everything, as you may know what I mean.
Since there is no culture/business in that island, more than 50% of the girls you graduate Jr.highschool
go to big city to work. They only graduate Jr.high, there are only two jobs they can conduct.
House keeper and prostitute.
I met a woman who have a daughter same age as me in that island, and she said

" My daughter is in Japan. She is working in Japan. You know what she is doing there, right?"

I know.

The idea of healthcare for american and canadian

This is the video clip of Malcolm Gladwell's talk.

From 25min, he starts to talk about "the idea of healthcare for amrican and canadian",
and I found it is very intersting.

When  american think about healthcaer,
they think about " how good their healthcare is".

And when canadian think about healthcare,
they think about "access equality (every canadian's access to healthcare)".

So "How we Frame something " is totally different.

Every one of us except American know the terrible access to healthcare service in the United States.
Why this happens?
Because, American never think about "access to healthcare" until they think about access,
they simply don't notice.

The difference of  "How we frame something" is very interesting idea.

I want to have good frames and various fames.

AIMS

Amazing talk by Neil Turok who founded the African Institute For Mathematical Scineces.
Maths lovers, give him a big hand!!
I always think people need education to get out of poverty.
But this education should not only be practical branch of learning, but also academic.

Maths....oh this is amazing!

Don't forget this.
Climing out of poverty by your own efforts, that is indeed something on which to pride yourself,
but poverty itself is romanticised only by fools.
This is maxim from my friend in Thailand.
